This page serves as a quicker and simpler guide to creating pages here on the Madagascar Wiki and what guidelines are in place around content to include. You can find the full version at MadagascarWiki: Page Guidelines. As a general rule, all pages must be Madagascar related. Main pages cannot include speculation or fan-held opinions or content. Please do not create blank pages. Some types of main wiki pages include:
- Characters
- Locations
- Events
- Episodes
- Films & Series
- Objects or Miscellaneous
When creating a new page, please use your own discretion when judging its importance and necessity to the wiki. There are some topics for pages which are unacceptable and will be deleted if created. These include, but are not limited to:
- Unconfirmed characters (see character section)
- Unimportant/non unique objects (see object section)
- Unconfirmed episodes
- Voice actors and crew (Please link voice actors and other crew names to their Wikipedia pages. This should be formatted as:[wikipedia:Voice Actor Name]] If one doesn’t exist, leave it unlinked.)
Characters
Characters include any living animal within the Madagascar franchise. (Meaning for instance, talking robots can also be considered an object.)
The requirements for character pages are:
1. Must be titled with character’s common name. (Ex. King Julien the XII is known as “Uncle King Julien” so his page is titled thus.)
2. The page must be added to the characters category. Further categorization is also needed. (For example, Alex page is placed under Characters—> Movie Characters.)
3. A MW-Character Infobox. This is accessible under “insert info box”. It must include at least the character’s name and their first appearance.
In addition to these, the pages should include, if possible:
1. Primary information about the character. This doesn’t need to have a sub- heading.
2. History/biography (of the character)
3. Personality
4. Relationships (with other characters)
5. Any additional information deemed relevant.
It is also strongly recommended to have a Tabs section at the top, as this allows for other pages related to the character, like trivia or quotes, to link there easily. Find appropriate wiki script to copy to the page in the full version of the MadagascarWiki:Page Guidelines or ask a staff member for help.
Unconfirmed Characters: In order for a character to be “confirmed”, it must be realized within the context of the franchise universe, or, “canon”. This means we know for a fact that the character exists. Ways of proving a character exists are showing the character or mentioning the character (when other characters talk about it. For example, Mort's Grandchildren are never shown at all but the character of Mort does say that they exist). Even if it seems logical that they exist, (that character had to have had parents, right, or else they can’t be alive?) still refrain from creating pages about them. When a character isn’t even proven to exist, there is next to nothing that can be written about them, so there is no point in creating such pages. When talking about a character who is only ever mentioned be sure to add “(mentioned)” after their first appearance. Unconfirmed character pages will be deleted unless a later piece of media confirms their existence.
Locations
Any important location shown or mentioned in the Madagascar franchise can have its own page. Please use your judgment when coming up with new locations, and do not add seemingly pointless or non-unique locations. One example would be to distinguish the location of King Julien’s plane from the throne room within- it would seem unnecessary to distinguish these locations as the throne room could be written about in a subsection of the plane.
In general these pages should contain an Infobox location, found by clicking insert info box, and be categorized under Location. Additional information should be added following the infobox.
Events
Events are major happenings in the plot. One way to be sure if something is an event is if it lasts for multiple episodes (applicable in series). For example, the War of the Beasts.
Event pages should contain:
1. A MW-Event infobox.
2. A description of the event followed by a detailed summary.
3. Any additional relevant content.
There should also be a Tab at the top of the page which can be copied from the format shown in the full version of the Page Guidelines. Events should be categorized under Event.
Episodes
Episode pages should describe individual episodes of a series. They must include the following requirements:
1. Title exactly as spelled by official source.
2. MW-Episode Infobox. This must include at least the name, season, episode number.
3. Summary (a short overview of the events of the episode. Can be copied directly from official source if desired.)
4. Plot (very detailed write up of the whole episode, almost as if you are reading it rather than watching it)
5. Songs contained in the episode (if applicable)
Episodes must be categorized as such and placed under a secondary category (All Hail King Julien Episodes, Penguins of Madagascar Episodes, etc.) Speculated future episodes should not be written about.
Films and Series
In the event that a page for a new series or film had not yet been created, you can create one with the following included:
1. MW-Media infobox- must be filled out completely.
2. Summary
3. Plot (for film mainly)
4. Cast (link all actors to Wikipedia pages if applicable)
5. Crew (same rule applies to crew)
6. Reception
7. Episodes (if series)
Objects and Miscellaneous
If deemed important, special objects can have their own pages. These objects must be unique. For example, The Iron Booty in All Hail King Julien is a unique object which is important to the plot. The character of Kowalski is shown to have special unique inventions. Examples of non-important object pages previously here on the wiki but later deleted include tranquilizer darts and mangoes. These are not significant objects and their appearance is not crucial to the plot. They are not any different from their real world counterparts. If an object warrants a page, simply write as much information about it as is relevant. It should be classified under objects or miscellaneous. If there is a dispute over the need of an object page a staff member can assist. Object pages should contain an Infobox object with at least the name, use, and appearance section filled out.
