Mr. Chew is a small, white poodle fond of chewing and tearing various items apart, including an Alex the Lion toy. Mr. Chew is owned by Nana, and lives in her apartment on the 13th floor in an hotel/apartment complex. He is being cute on the outside for his owner's love, but is even meaner than his owner on the inside.
A Christmas Caper[]
Nana purchases Private, mistaking him for a squeaky toy, while he was attempting to find a gift for Ted, and reveals him to be a Christmas present for Mr. Chew. Mr. Chew reveals that he is in fact rabid and feral seen by him viciously destroying an Alex plush toy. He nearly mauled Private, while Nana was watching a football game on the TV, but was defeated by Skipper, Kowalski, and Rico, who had set out to rescue Private. However, Nana didn't hear the fight, but after she sees the damage (done by the penguins), she blames Mr. Chew for destroying her apartment. The penguins (Private, Skipper, Kowalski, and Rico) waddle out of her apartment room --after Rico burns down the door with his dynamite-- and leave Mr. Chew to take the fall.

Mr. Chew had a cameo appearance in Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted.

Mr. Chew is ability to somewhat control his ferocity and mask it from Nana. Appearing with his cute normal face when near Nana, and a foaming, bloodshot eyed feral look when chasing the penguins.
Fans have theorized that Mr. Chew was taken on a trip to Africa and bitten and infected by a rabid lion, hinting to Nana's later hatred of lions.
